Natulim Citric Acid Multi-Purpose Cleaner (500 g) Review
Pure citric acid that replaces descaler, softener and degreaser.
Overview
100% plant-derived citric acid with no additives or fragrance, in a cardboard bag. Mixed with water it becomes a descaler for taps, kettles and shower screens, a fabric-softener substitute, a light degreaser and a deodoriser.
Pros
- One bag replaces several bottled products
- Single, fully disclosed ingredient
- Great descaler for hard-water areas
Cons
- You have to mix your own solutions
- Not for marble, stone or aluminium
- Lowest-rated product we review (4.02/5)

A closer look
The useful dilutions
Natulim's own guidance: 150 g per litre of warm water as a descaling spray (leave 15 minutes, then rinse); 100 g per litre as a softener, using about 100 ml per wash; 50 g per litre for wiping steel, glass and hobs; and two tablespoons boiled in a full kettle to descale it.
Important caveats
Acid can dull marble, natural stone and aluminium, so don't use it there and patch-test anything you're unsure about. That's the main reason this scores lower than the rest of the range: it's effective, but you need to know where not to use it.
Why the lower rating
At 4.02/5 it's the lowest-rated product we cover. It's a raw ingredient rather than a ready-made cleaner, and buyers expecting a finished spray can be disappointed. If you're comfortable mixing your own solutions, it's excellent value.
What buyers say
“Excellent for lots of uses and replaces many other products.”
“It makes clothes as soft as vinegar does.”
“A great product that really cleans well, even tough grease.”
